"The Presence of God"
"He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence." Exodus 33:15-15
Imagine going into the wilderness with the responsibility of leading over one million people. Moses had been a shepherd in this same desert for forty years, but leading sheep was altogether different than leading a million-plus people into this giant sandbox. This wilderness was filled with death. No one in their right mind would jump out into this desolation without a specific plan and plenty of provision. What a terrifying prospect lay ahead for Moses. However, the wilderness and all its dangers were not what terrified Moses the most. We see from this passage that Moses was paralyzed by the thought of going up without God's personal presence.
The great sin of our day is going about our day-to-day activities completely unaware of the presence of God. We assume God is watching over us and that is all we need, but we are not consciously aware of God in our midst. Modern man can go everywhere, do everything and is completely curious about the universe. Yet, it is a rare person now-a-days that is curious enough to want to know God!
May our prayer be today, "God, if You don't personally attend to my goings, and if I cannot sense Your presence with me, I don't want to go."
Remember these things: "For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God." Hebrews 7:19
"Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you." James 4:8
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near." Isaiah 55:6
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm 91:1
