"Passions and Priorities"
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
Since deer hunting season is in full swing, I thought I would tell a hunting tale.
A group of friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under an eight-point buck.
"Where's Harry?" he was asked.
"Harry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail."
"You left Harry lying there, and carried the deer back?"
"Well," said the hunter, "I figured no one was going to steal Harry."
We all know at least one hunter that would fit this story. I’m not going to mention names here, but I don’t think I have to. Most of you have already filled in the names!
I know this is a little over the top (maybe not by much), but this story serves as a reminder that we need to keep things in perspective. With football season, hunting season, and the weather affording good fishing, golfing, and all sorts of activities, priorities can get way out of line. We certainly need to enjoy the things that God has given opportunity to enjoy, but not at the expense of our responsibilities.
Let me remind you to prioritize your life. Don’t let passions overthrow your priorities. Take care of your God-given responsibilities and God will bless your interests.
