"The Cost of Freedom"

The Cost of Freedom
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.””

Revelation 12:11

With the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden, and the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, I began to think of how much this has cost the United States.  There is no way to calculate the price we have paid in terms of loss of lives and the human suffering that follows.  However, there is a substantial money cost to our country to track down and kill these terrorists, and to engage the enemy in day-to-day combat.
Quite a few years ago, a Dutch professor took time to calculate the cost of an enemy soldier's death at different epochs in history.  He estimated that during the reign of Julius Caesar, to kill an enemy soldier cost less than one dollar.  At the time of Napoleon, it had considerably inflated to more than $2,000.  At the end of the World War I, it had multiplied several times to reach the figure of some $17,000.  During the World War II, it was about $40,000.  And in Vietnam, in 1970, to kill an enemy soldier cost the United States $200,000.  I can only speculate that this cost has multiplied greatly in the wars of today.  The United States has spent literally billions of dollars in the hunt for and killing of Osama Bin Laden.
There is no way to calculate the price that was paid to defeat the great terrorist, and wicked one, Satan.  His war against God has cost much pain and suffering, yet God in His great mercy, spent all that He could spend to destroy the works of the enemy.  God spared not His own Son in the conflict. No price can be fixed on the precious, sinless, life-giving blood of Jesus Christ!  Our battle with Satan was financed and fought by Heaven, and we are freely given the victory!
Let us thank God, that in the midst of a war-torn world, we who have the Lord Jesus have everlasting peace and victory.  Praise God today for His unspeakable gift!
