"Rules for Rearing Children - Part 2"
"Lo, children are an
heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the
womb is his reward."
We have an awesome responsibility to bring our children up in
the "nurture and admonition of the Lord."
God has blessed Central with hundreds of
children, and given us the opportunity to
influence many future generations. If
we are to do this effectively, our children
will have to be raised God's way. Let
me remind you of Paul's warning to the
Colossians: "Beware lest any man
spoil you through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the traditions of men, after
the rudiments of the world, and not after
Christ" (Colossians 2:8). So, we
must first of all: Keep Biblical
Now, keep in mind when
raising children: Live a life of
obedience yourself. It doesn't do much
good to say, "Don't watch my dirty movies!"
or "Don't smoke my cigarettes!"
Children can see right through
hypocrisy. If we are going to see our
children go on for God, they will have to
see us go on for God. If it’s right
for them to do it, it is right for us to do
it. If they shouldn't spend time
surfing the Internet, social networking, and
watching ungodly things on T.V. (and they
shouldn't!), then you shouldn't be doing it
either. It is not enough to say, "Do
what I say, not as I do." If it's not
good for the children, it's not good for
you! "Thou therefore which teachest
another, teachest thou not thyself? thou
that preachest a man should not steal,
dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man
should not commit adultery, dost thou
commit adultery? thou that abhorrest
idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? Thou
that makest thy boast of the law, through
breaking the law dishonourest thou God?"
Are you living a life of
disobedience to God, and expecting obedience
from your children? "Be not
deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he
also reap" (Galatians 6:7). We must
practice what we preach!
Stay tuned! More to come!
