"Rules for Rearing Children"

Rules for Rearing Children"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
Psalm 127:3

God has blessed our church with children!  It seems we turn around only to find another sweet couple expecting again.  The nurseries are full and the Sunday school classes are bustling with kids.  God has blessed us so much!

What I want to remind us about is the awesome responsibility we have as a church family to set the right culture to bring our children up in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord."  With the world pulling at every moment, parents, we must be ready.  I want us to look at some practice things that will help all of us to be better Christian parents.  With 14-, 12-, and 8-year old girls, I need reminding often to be diligent, because the world, the flesh and the devil never stop working.  Here are a few things for us to put in mind:

1.  Keep Biblical traditions.

I am not talking about religious traditions that are unbiblical and unspiritual.  I am referring to what Paul said to the Thessalonians when he said, "Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which he have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle" (II Thessalonians 2:15).

Form the traditions of being in church faithfully, attending Sunday school, Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening.  Don't miss unless you are really sick, because you never know what service God is going to move on your child's heart about salvation or service.

Develop a tradition of family devotions.  Remember, the family that prays together stays together.  Sometimes these devotion times won't feel like much is being accomplished, but stay with it and you will build a foundation of bringing God into our daily lives.  This develops an expectation of communication with God Almighty!  "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (II Timothy 3:15).

I will cover more on this next week in Words of Truth, so be looking for it!
