"I Surrender All"
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
William Sangster, the great London preacher, visited a young girl in the hospital who was going blind. "God is going to take my sight away," she told the pastor. After a long pause, Sangster said, "Don't let Him, Jessie. Give it to Him. Try to pray this prayer: 'Father, if for any reason I must lose my sight, help me to give it to you.'"
He soon would live those same words as he was suffering from muscular atrophy. He made four resolutions and faithfully kept them: 1) I will never complain; 2) I will keep the home bright; 3) I will count my blessings; 4) I will try to turn it to gain. William Sangster died having surrendered all to Jesus.
True surrender of our lives to The Lord puts everything into His hands. It is only through this surrender that we understand that to live or die is in His power. My life is His life, so my death is His as well. When I surrender totally to His will, then what happens in my life is by His directing, as well as what happens in my death. In other words, to the surrendered man, how I leave this earth is as much God's will as how I live on this earth. True and total surrender realizes several things.
God is the rightful owner of all.
I was made in His image, by His will, and was given life by Him. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:3,4
2. God knows how my life should be lived.
And to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work. Col 1:9,10 Always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Col 4:12 3. God knows the day of my death. Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; Job 14:5. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Heb 9:27.
4. God can only do the true believer good in all things. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28. The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him. Nahum 1:7
So, Christian, moment by moment, learn to surrender all! Trust The Lord, and learn to rest on Him. He will never leave you, nor will He do you harm. See if you can sing this with a true heart: All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live. I surrender all, I surrender all. All to Thee, my blessed Saviour,
