"Loyalty"

“This
know also, that in the last days perilous
times shall come. For men shall be
lovers of their own selves…Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of
pleasures
more than lovers of God.”
I Timothy 3:1, 2a, 4
A quality often revered in a dog,
but reviled in a man.” This is a saying
I heard years ago and it has stayed with me.
Loyalty is a trait that is obviously missing
from our society today. I believe many of
our social problems could
be reversed with a little bit of loyalty from the citizens.
As a boy, I started each morning
in the classroom with my hand over my heart and the words, “I pledge
allegiance…” I was giving a solemn
promise to give my loyalty to the country I so love.
As governments change and political powers
shift
to and fro, there is a sense that America is changing.
I wholeheartedly disagree with that! Our leaders cannot change America unless we
become disloyal to her foundations. I
believe that America is not just a nation.
America is a people united by ideas and
principles of liberty and
justice for all. Those principles are
preserved in documents known as the Constitution of the United States
and the
Bill of Rights. These are not just
documents but the preservation of the American idea.
America will die if the people will not place
hand over heart and pledge allegiance to uphold, live and defend these
rights.
As believing Americans, we hold
allegiance to our Christian faith as well.
We must be loyal to Jesus Christ, and His Word! We must know Him and walk with Him, and live
by the doctrines He taught us. Loyalty
is necessary for a belief to survive. We
must not sell out our Saviour for sin, selfishness and popularity! Judas Iscariot found himself on this side of
history. His disloyalty drove him to
suicide and that is how it always turns out.
Disloyalty is a self-inflicted death for a
nation, cause or faith. The same is true
in business. Disloyal employers and
employees can bring a
strong company down. This is true in
every institution. A home can be
shattered by a disloyal husband or wife.
It will be dysfunctional if the children are
disloyal to the family
unit. Disloyalty is a self-death. Churches, communities, companies, and
countries have all been killed by their own disloyal hand.
I believe if we will hold fast to
our profession of faith and stand firm with the conviction to live our
faith
and the American way, we can cause stability in our society. Loyalty is the key.
