"For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth" Psalm 119:89, 90
Evolutionist Bill Nye, and creationist Ken Ham debated the question “Is Creation a Viable Model of Origins in Today’s Scientific Age?” During the two and a half hour long debate, it became very clear that Ken Ham held strongly to the Biblical account of creation while Bill Nye refused to even acknowledge the Bible. Several times throughout the evening, Bill Nye referred to the Bible as “an ancient text that has been translated hundreds of times over the last three millennia.” He absolutely rejected the idea that such a Book could endure hundreds of translations and still be completely intact in American English today. Bill Nye even compared the translation work of the Bible to a kindergarten game of “Telephone.” This game is played by one child being told a secret by the teacher, and then whispering that secret to the next child and so on until the secret comes back to the teacher, usually distorted and very different than the original. Bill Nye believes this is exactly what happened to Biblical translation through the last thirty centuries; therefore, we could not possibly have a complete or even correct translation of the Bible.
Is it absurd for Ken Ham and other creationists to claim the absolute accuracy of the Bible? Do we really have a complete and correct Bible in our hands today? If not, we have serious problems with our belief system, and we have major work to do in explaining what is accurate in the Bible and what is not. If we do have a complete and correct Bible, then the evolutionist is in serious trouble trying to explain away the origins of life without an Intelligent Designer. So who is right?
Throughout this year we are going Back to the Basics, and nothing is more basic to the Christian than the Bible. It is either God’s Word or it is not. All of it is true or none of it is. God gave it to man, or man gave it to man. If it is true, then every man who denies it or disagrees with it is a liar. It is either absolute truth or it is an absolute lie. So which is it? I stand firm on the foundation that the Bible is God’s Holy Word! What He gave to man has been translated for thousands of years, and it is still complete and correct, and it is the basis for all we believe.
The Bible has been preserved by God. Preservation is very important in this matter. If the Bible is only a product of hundreds of translation attempts by man over thousands of years, then what we have should very much resemble a kindergarten class telephone game. We should have a book filled with half truths, contradictions, and out-and-out lies. Yet, what we have is an interwoven story of scientific history, poetry, prophecy, and theology that declares the origin of life, the existence of God, the history of man, and the future of every individual. What a Book! Something so perfectly detailed could only be the product of Divine Inspiration and Divine Preservation. In other words, God had to speak it to man, and then protect it for every generation. A perfect Bible can only be the product of a perfect God!
God promised to preserve His Word forever. “The words of the Lord are pure words:
as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times Thou shalt keep them, O Lord,
thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” Psalm 12:6, 7. Even though throughout the last three thousand years we have been handed down copies of copies, we can stand on the promise of God to preserve His Word. Don’t think that the copies are inferior to the original manuscripts. No one alive today has ever seen an original manuscript. What you must understand is that we are not dealing with manuscripts; we are dealing with God Himself. After all, God is the Original! “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” John 1:1, 2. You can rest assured that the copies were preserved by God! Just as the sun was spoken into existence and is still burning today, the Word of God was spoken into existence and is still burning today! We have the Word of God today. Yes, it is a copy of a copy, just as Jesus read from in John 4, but it has been preserved. These copies are holy (II Tim. 3:15; Rom. 1:2). These copies are true (Dan. 10:21). These copies are not broken (John 10:35). These copies are worthy of belief (John 2:22).
The prophecies contained in these copies have been fulfilled to the very letter and await fulfillment (Luke 4:21).
These copies are the very voice of God. (2 Tim. 3:16)
Get Back to the Basics that the Bible is God’s Word!
