"An Unspeakable Gift"

Gift
“ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Pastor Clifford S. Stewart of Louisville, Kentucky, sent his parents a microwave oven one Christmas.  Here's how he recalls the experience: "They were excited that now they, too, could be a part of the instant generation.  When Dad unpacked the microwave and plugged it in, literally within seconds, the microwave transformed two smiles into frown! Even after reading the directions, they couldn't make it work. "Two days later, my mother was playing bridge with a friend and confessed her inability to get that microwave oven even to boil water. 'To get this crazy thing to work,' she exclaimed, 'I really don't need better directions; I just needed my son to come along with the gift!'"
How complicated would it have been if God had made us work for our salvation? To attempt to overcome our own sinful nature and to strive to have God’s holiness would be impossible for us to do.  Our minds could never comprehend how complex this salvation really is.  How does one get reborn?  How does a creature become a completely different creature?  How could we possibly figure that out?  When God sent us the wonderful gift of salvation, He did not send us a complicated book of instructions; He sent His Son.
How foolish is this teaching that a man can do enough good to save himself!  Can you not see the pride and arrogance of Lucifer in this damnable doctrine?  No man can save himself!  No man could master the wisdom it would require to comprehend salvation.  No man, save the Man Christ Jesus!
Rejoice Christian that God sent His Son along with the gift!  Praise Him today for His unspeakable gift!
