"The Big News"

Wright Brothers
“ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Luke 2:10,11

In December 1903, after many attempts, the Wright brothers were successful in getting their "flying machine" off the ground. Thrilled, they telegraphed this message to their sister Katherine: "We have actually flown 120 feet. Will be home for Christmas." Katherine hurried to the editor of the local newspaper and showed him the message. He glanced at it and said, "How nice. The boys will be home for Christmas." He totally missed the big news--man had flown!
Tens of thousands of people will be using the modern marvel of flight to fly home for Christmas. Trains, busses and highways will be busy as family members make their way home to see family during this wonderful time of the year. Yet, most people, I’m afraid,
will miss the big news—The Saviour has come!
We all realize how great an achievement it was for man to become airborne in 1903. Yet there has never been a greater accomplishment than God becoming earthbound. The heavens were filled with multitudes of angels breaking forth in praise and singing to God, and bringing good tidings to all people that a Saviour is born! What great news! Mankind now has a Redeemer! Every sin can be forgiven, and man can live with God forever! What greater news could man ever hear?
Let each of us focus on why we are flying or driving to see our families this Christmas. Don’t lose sight of the big news this year: A Saviour is born!
Study verses:  Isaiah 7:14; 8:8: 9:6; Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:21-23
