"Overcoming Obstacles"

Overcoming Obstacles
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:14

We all love the “rags-to-riches” stories.  Those tales of courageous people that overcome all odds and become successful always seem to warm our hearts.  Such stories as Abraham Lincoln overcoming poverty and illiterate parents, and persevering through many political failures to rise to the Presidency; Thomas Edison overcoming deafness; and Helen Keller overcoming blindness and deafness just to name a few.  True successes are those achieved by overcoming great obstacles.
How you and I handle roadblocks will determine how successful we will be.  Obstacles are to some people an excuse to quit, while to others they are only opportunities to do greater things.  What are obstacles to you? Are they roadblocks or opportunities?  If we are to overcome obstacles, we will need three major things:

1.    Patience
2.    Preparation
3.    Perseverance

Patience is to prayerfully wait on God to work while not becoming hasty in our actions.  Patience will have her perfect work in our lives if we will let it.
Preparation will help us when we encounter roadblocks in life.  For example, when you get caught at a train crossing you can either get angry and wait for it to pass, or drive like crazy to get around it, or you can read that book you brought along in case you got caught by a train.  A little forethought and preparation can make every obstacle an opportunity.  Perseverance is the ability to take another step when everything is saying you can’t.  Just simple “sticking by the stuff” can bring you through many obstacles.  Keep keeping on!
You too can be a success story to those around you if you will apply these truths to your daily obstacles.  Remember that it is easy to quit, but no quitter ever warmed our hearts!
