"Rules for Rearing Children - Part 4"

Rules for Rearing Children - 2"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
Psalm 127:3

As we continue to discuss the culture needed to bring up our children in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord," the prayer of your pastor is, "God, fill us with the knowledge of Your will."  God's Word is His will written for our sakes.  In His Word, God lays out specific instructions for every aspect of life.  I think it is a wonderful comfort that God cares so much about me that He would give me instructions for every detail of my life.

Luke 11:13 says, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"  May we ask our heavenly Father to give us leadership in rearing our children.  I love my children so much that I want the very best for them, and I must trust that God loves me so much more and would give me the necessities for rearing them according to His instructions.

We have seen that we need to keep Christian traditions, live obedient lives ourselves, and make much of Jesus.  If we are to rear our children for Christ, then we must also deal with disobedience immediately.

Procrastination is still very much a tool of Satan.  Many important things get put off until they are never done.  As parents, we must never procrastinate when it comes to correcting disobedience.  Sometimes in a public place, if our children act up, we will have to use discretion, and pull them aside to tell them that how they are behaving will be dealt with, and more so if they continue to act up.  However, you must follow through on what you have said, and if they persist, you may have to leave to deal with them.  It is your duty to "train up your child."  If we do not deal with disobedience immediately, then we are allowing their hearts to be set on evil. "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil" Ecclesiastes 8:11.  Pay attention to your children, or like concrete, evil will fully set in their hearts.

I long for Central to have children that are brought up in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord."  Parents, it's up to us!
